Question about Anxiety?I have been having what I think are "anxiety attacks". I feel like I cant concentrate and my heart beats really fast and I can only breathe shallow breaths and I get light headed. Kinda like I'm about to have a heart attack. It really scares me, I never knew what was really happening to me until I told one of my friends about it. She said it was anxiety. I work full time as a supervisor in a retail store and It usually happens while I'm at work or on my way to work or when I'm on my way home from closing the store. I just start thinking about things that I could have done wrong at work. That might have went wrong. Or that I'll get in trouble for something that I know nothing about. Then I get shallow breathed, my heart starts pounding, and it's weird but ill catch myself counting, and singing the numbers (normally when I'm driving to work) but i don't realize I do it until something jars my focus, like having to stop at a red light. When I get to work I immediately go to one of my coworkers and ask "did Alissa (my boss) say closing went okay?" or some variation of that question. When I was telling my friend about this (I chose to leave out the whole counting to myself part-kinda embarrassing) she told me I should go to the doctor to see if there was anything to be done. I'm not really wanting to go to the dr really because I don't want him to think im makin things up to try and get drugs. I don't know what to do. Is this serious? Will the doc think I'm just tryin to get drugs? Will the dr be able to do anything?

You might want to consider visiting a psychiatrist, not just an md. A psychiatrist will listen to you when you tell him your symptoms. A competent psychiatrist knows when someones just looking for drugs as apposed to looking for help. Compared to the folks that i know, you're the walking definition of sane. It doesn't sound like anything seriouse. Good luck!

Look up panic attacks. When you start feeling one coming on take deep very controlled breaths. Focus only on that in your mind, shut out the worries, say bad air out, good air in. Do this ignoring other physical symptoms. Simply breathe deep.
A doctor can give you something for panic attacks. Good Luck. Oh and here is a thought - I used to work retail for a number of years. If you did not know what you were doing you wouldn't have that position. Quit freaking yourself out. Good luck.
